Perfume Genius – “Clean Heart”

Look at that motherfucking press pic. Cool as hell, right? That’s how a press pic should look. Most of us will never as cold as Mike Hadreas is in that image. It doesn’t really tell you much about how the new Perfume Genius track sounds, but who cares? When my book was coming out, I wanted my jacket photo to be me posing with a falcon, even though I have no experience with falconry and there are zero mentions of falcons in the book. I let my kids talk me out of it, and I wouldn’t have looked as cool as Hadreas anyway. But goddammit, I should’ve tried.

Anyway. In a few short days, Perfume Genius will release the new album Glory. I have heard it, and it rocks. We’ve already posted the lead single “It’s A Mirror” and the Aldous Harding collab “No Front Teeth,” which happen to be the first two tracks on the album. Now, Perfume Genius shares one final early song, and it’s the third one on the album. “Clean Heart” doesn’t have a brain-fucking cinematic video like the other two singles, but it’s a beautifully twinkly lullaby that builds into some true top-shelf art-pop. Listen below.

Glory is out 3/28 on Matador.
