Guided By Voices have still got it. The unstoppable rock band is releasing their 42nd album Thick, Rich And Delicious on Halloween, and they shared “(You Can’t Go Back To) Oxford Talawanda” last month. Now they’re shredding on the new single “Phantasmagoric Upstarts.”

So far Casey Dienel (fka White Hinterland) has shared “Seventeen” and “Your Girl’s Upstairs” from their upcoming album My Heart Is An Outlaw, and both serve as lovely previews. Now the Massachusetts artist is unveiling two new singles called “People Can Change” and “The Butcher Is My Friend.”

In March, Twin Shadow commemorated his late father with the album Georgie. Now, the Dominican-American musician is already announcing its followup, Cadet, arriving next month.

We haven’t heard from Loma Prieta since their 2023 album Last. It turns out the Bay Area post-hardcore crew has been cooking up a side-project called Novacaine in the meantime, and their debut song “Milk” is out today.

We are always hyped for new music from Split System, the ace garage-punk unit from Melbourne. Today, it’s once again time for that enthusiasm to flow. The band has returned with what’s billed as their third and final 7″ of the year, boasting two extremely pointed new tracks. The A-side, “No Cops In Heaven,” is built for moments of howl-along barroom transcendence, while “Pull The Trigger” is more of a blunt force object, albeit one that moves swiftly and with purpose.

Friendship’s stark, somber, slyly funny Caveman Wakes Up is one of this year’s truly great indie rock achievements, and “Free Association” is one of its finest tracks. Today the Philadelphia band has reminded us of all that with the release of a new remix EP.

Perhaps nothing illustrates Fucked Up’s wild-eyed ambition better than their series of Zodiac singles. For 19 years, the great Toronto rockers have released a progression of long, twisty, genre-exploding records, each of them corresponding to a different year of the Chinese Zodiac calendar. The first one was the Year Of The Dog 12″ in 2006, and the most recent is Year Of The Horse, an epic four-part double 12″ that came out in 2021. Now, Fucked Up are ready to conclude that saga with a ten-part finale called Grass Can Move Stones, which will include the band’s final three entries, Goat, Monkey, and Rooster.

A lot of folks over here in the English-speaking world were introduced to Bb trickz almost exactly a year ago when Charli XCX enlisted her for the star-studded Brat remix album. Since then, the Spanish rapper has infiltrated American audiences by teaming up with Ice Spice on her recent remix album, and by paying tribute to Clairo on the single “not a pretty girl.” Today, Bb trickz returns with the surprise-released EP called lechita.

When I saw Show Me The Body headline a great touring bill in Richmond last year, they covered motherfucking “Sabotage.” I was unprepared for this, and it fucking ruled. Turns out that Show Me The Body have been covering the Beastie Boys’ 1994 anthem since 2023, when they debuted their version at a surprise Tompkins Square Park show. The original song obviously rules, and Show Me The Body exist within that track’s universe of attitude-forward New York rock ‘n’ roll. Now, SMTB have shared the studio version of their “Sabotage” cover.

Ellis Dickson, the drummer from proggy weirdos Fat Dog, has his own solo project called ELLiS·D. Today, he’s released a new single “I Want To Be Everything You Desire.” It’s the first single that he’s released since dropping his EP Spill this past April.

The band is called Guitar. That’s what Saia Kuli decided to name his Portland indie rock project. It’s just fucking crazy. We probably make too much of that decision when we write about Guitar on this website, but we’re not the ones who decided to name the band Guitar. Truth in advertising, though — there is a whole lot of guitar in Guitar’s music. You can hear a great deal of it on the new song “Chance To Win.”

The ridiculously fun LA pop-punk trio Suzie True will release their new album How I Learned To Love What’s Gone in a few weeks, and you should be fired up about that. Suzie True recorded the LP with producer Chris Farren, while Eve 6’s Jon Siebels recorded and mixed it. We’ve posted the early tracks “LEECHES (PLAY DEAD!)” and “Get Prettier Overnight!!!” Today, they’ve got a new song that doesn’t have any exclamation points in its title. I guess you could say the exclamation point is implied.

Atlanta’s Upchuck will share their new Ty Segall-produced album I’m Nice Now this Friday, and judging by the singles we’ve heard so far, it’s shaping up to be a good one. They’ve shared one final advance track today called “New Case.”

In a couple of weeks, Helen Ballentine’s hazy-reverie project Skullcrusher will follow 2022’s Quiet The Room with the new album And Your Song Is Like A Circle. In a couple of months, Carlyn Bezic, the Toronto musician who records as Jane Inc., will release A Rupture A Canyon A Birth, a new album partly inspired by the moment that a semi truck plowed into Belzic’s broken-down tour van. Nobody in the Jane Inc. touring party was hurt in that accident, and they even played their scheduled show later that night. But everyone could’ve easily been killed, and that kind of near-death experience will do something to you. That’s the key to Jane Inc.’s new song “what if.”

Last year, Shane Lavers released the first Chanel Beads Your Day Will Come to critical acclaim. Now, the trendy New York artist is getting ready to open for Lorde on some of her Ultrasound Tour dates and Grizzly Bear at some of their reunion shows, but first he’s sharing a transcendent new track called “The Coward Forgets His Nightmare.”

Great news: Dylan Fraser and Alaska Reid are back with a new Witch Post track. The refreshing indie rock duo released their debut EP Beast earlier this year, and now they’re sharing “Changeling.”

The endlessly cool Molly Nilsson releases her new album Amateur tomorrow. We’ve heard the sunny synth-pop singles “How Much Is The World?” and “Swedish Nightmare,” and now the chic Swede is offering a turbulent taste with “Get A Life.”

London-based group Whitelands are releasing their sophomore album Sunlight Echoes, the follow-up to last year’s Night-bound Eyes Are Blind To The Day, at the beginning of next year. Alongside the announcement comes a shimmering indie-pop single “Glance,” which comes with a music video starring actors David Jonsson (The Long Walk, Alien: Romulus, Industry) and Honor Swinton Byrne (daughter of Tilda Swinton and John Byrne; starred in The Souvenir films).

My Morning Jacket’s Z turns 20 this Saturday, and the band is ready for the occasion. Last month the band announced a 20th anniversary deluxe reissue of the album with a remaster of the original tracklist plus demos, outtakes, and unreleased tracks. One of those shelved songs has made its way online today ahead of the reissue’s release this Friday.

The business entities controlling the collected works of glam god Marc Bolan have not exactly been averse to compilations, reissues, and box sets, but somehow there’s still a T. Rex song that had never been released before today. “I’m Dazed” is out now, on what would have been Bolan’s 78th birthday, to go along with another commemoration effort: English Heritage have unveiled a blue plaque at Bolan’s former London home at 31 Clarendon Gardens, Maida Vale.

We’ve already heard a couple songs from Australian post-punkers dust’s forthcoming debut album Sky Is Falling: There was the frantic anxiety of “Drawbacks” and then the swift prettiness of “Alastair.” Today, they’re releasing one more before the album comes out next week. It’s called “Restless,” and it pushes their range even further.

“Dozer,” the new single from UK trio Plantoid — drummer Louis Bradshaw, vocalist/guitarist Chloe Spence and lead guitarist Tom Coyne — opens with bright bursts of guitar, a steadily strutting drumbeat, and icy high-pitched vocals. But it ends in a different galaxy. It’s an ostensibly post-punk introduction that takes us on labyrinthine alien adventure. In 2025, “Dozer” is proof that prog-rock is alive and thriving.

Denver’s Destiny Bond make fast, mean, anthemic hardcore punk, and their sophomore album The Love is coming out in a few weeks. I thought lead single “Peace As A Punchline” was an absolute ripper. Today, Destiny Bond follow that one with two more, “Out Loud” and “Mind To The Mirror.” Both songs are short, hard, and direct. Both of them are just a tiny bit more than one minute long. The two tracks, the last ones that Destiny Bond wrote for the LP, appear in the tracklist as a one-two punch. Listen to both of them below.

The latest music video from LA-based indie-pop singer-songwriter Jordana threads an interesting needle. In the Alex LaLiberte-directed clip, she plays a news personality type who visits a local hype house to learn the latest dances from a team of influencers. In the process, Jordana manages to make fun of TikTok dances as an institution while introducing a few moves that could potentially become TikTok dances themselves — a very right-now version of both having and eating cake.

I was at last week’s Turnstile show in Richmond, the one where a sheriff’s deputy apparently pepper sprayed some kid in the face. I didn’t get pepper-sprayed, though. I didn’t even see it happening. That’s probably because I started heading for the merch tables as Turnstile were finishing their last song. I really, really wanted to get a Speed football jersey. I got one, and it looks sick as hell.

Some songs make a fool out of time. Such is the case of “50s song,” the debut single from newly formed UK trio Dorothy, which calls back to a bygone era while also feeling otherworldly. While there’s a romantic, doo-woppy air to “50s song,” there’s also intergalactic synths, man-made rocket(?) wave(?) noises, and a grunginess that unfolds as the song fades out. It’s a little eerie, like a Caspar David Friedrich painting, but overall striking with pop whimsy.

Many years ago, when I was living in Chicago, I was at a child’s backyard birthday party, and I was bored as fuck. That shit was ass. It seemed like the people at the house next door were having a way better time. I kept looking over the fence and being like, “Damn, everyone over there looks cooler than everyone over here, and they all seem to be having way more interesting conversations.” Someone told me that a member of Tortoise lived next door and that they were having a barbecue, and I spent the whole birthday party sulking, wishing I was at the Tortoise barbecue instead. Well, now we can all be at the Tortoise barbecue, metaphorically speaking.

Earlier this year, Mei Semones unveiled her debut album Animaru and became a Stereogum Artist To Watch. The eclectic Brooklyn artist is back today with a new song called “Itsumo.”

The cosmic Boston indie rockers Horse Jumper Of Love released their fantastic album Disaster Trick last year. Since then, they’ve collaborated with Winter and covered Jason Molina, and now they’re getting ready to drop a deluxe edition of Disaster Trick. It’ll include bonus tracks like “The Idiot” and “The Car Knows The Way,” the two-pack that came out earlier this year, as well as B-sides, demos, alternate versions, and the churning, discordant, vaguely Jawbox-esque new single “Mansion.”

North Carolina electro-pop duo Sylvan Esso are back today with a new single, but you won’t be able to listen to it on Spotify. “WDID” is Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn’s first original music since 2022, and it’s also the first song of theirs to be released on the label they founded a few years ago, Psychic Hotline. And now that Sylvan Esso are finally releasing their music on their own label, they’re making a big executive decision about where to make it available.

Remember Remember Sports? We haven’t heard much from the Philly musicians since 2022’s Leap Day EP, which was one of that year’s best, and 2021’s Like A Stone, which we named Album Of The Week. Today, the Band To Watch alums return with a great, twangy new single called “Across The Line.” Along with the song comes promising news: Remember Sports have a new label home Get Better Records and an imminent album.

Earlier this month, Melody Prochet returned with a new Melody’s Echo Chamber song called “Daisy” with El Michels Affair. Now, the French psych-pop artist is announcing her fifth album Unclouded, arriving in December. The enchanting new single “In The Stars” is out today.

Last month, Westerman announced his new album A Jackal’s Wedding, out November 7, with the far out synth-heavy single “Adriactic.” Today, he’s returned with another preview of the forthcoming LP with the song “About Leaving,” which is not synth-heavy at all. Instead, there’s some foreboding piano chords and Westerman’s pristinely smooth vocals singing serious-seeming lyrics.

UK post-punk quartet Dry Cleaning were a Stereogum Band To Watch back in the day, and they released their sophomore album Stumpwork in 2022. Since then, they’ve been touring hard, and their 2023 EP Swampy had a couple of extra songs from the Stumpwork sessions. Early next year, they’ll release a new album called Secret Love into the world, and they recorded it with producer Cate Le Bon, who just released her own LP Michelangelo Dying last week.

Oscar-nominated movie star LaKeith Stanfield has taken on music-related roles in things like Atlanta and Straight Outta Compton, where he played a young Snoop Dogg. He’s done some dabbling in music over the years, too. In 2018, for instance, Stanfield collaborated with the Coup on “OYAHYTT,” from the Sorry To Bother You soundtrack. Stanfield played the lead in that picture, the directorial debut from Coup leader Boots Riley. A year later, Stanfield dropped the Charlamagne Tha God diss track “Automatic.” But now Stanfield is jumping all the way into music. He has signed to Def Jam, and his new single “Fast Life” has Kid Cudi on it.
